One day Job
In this edition I am going to explain about my experience of finding a job for one day during my MBA. After lot of struggle I worked for one day at Sarja, the famous and renowned restaurant of Lata Mangeshkar in Aundh.

Our journey started at 8:15am in the morning the time at which we were supposed to reach our classroom 1E ground floor at our renowned institute SIMS. Kamath sir explained us the process with terms & condition which were supposed to be followed at all point of time during the exercise, our journey to get a One Day Job.

T&C (terms & conditions)
1. We should not use our money at any point of time in any circumstance. So this in itself means many things – travel taking lifts, what about food & water?
2. We were not supposed to tell our employer of one day about our identity, our Institute SIMS.
3. We were not supposed to eat with our own money and not even using the money earned.
4. We were given the region ( Aundh & Baner ) so going beyond the boundaries was not allowed.
5. The team combination 1 boy + 1 girl ( many will see this as an advantage and some as disadvantage, but there are pros and cons to it)
6. We are supposed to work at the same place, so no advantage of increasing our earning by splitting.

In short we had to earn without spending anything.
We left the gates of our compass at 9:45 am, but god was at our side and we got the lift there and then. But the happiness lasted till E-Square corner only, then we walked till University circle and tried taking lift by reaching people in their cars at the crossing lights but people simply refused some politely and some rudely (then memories flashed in my mind of my to and fro travel during my working days in Cognizant I used to give lift each and every person, one time I even gave a lift to a drunken man, which created problems for me)

We should realize that each and every person is different and we should not stop doing the good work which we are doing just because no one else is doing.
After some struggle we got another lift till Brahmin Circle (Aundh). The guy who gave us the lift was going to Mumbai for some work. Here we should realize that while taking lift we should keep talking to people who gave the lift because he should feel good and might have some ideas to give you, as myself being the lift giver many times felt the need for it.

People behave according to their experiences, if we just meant some luggage to the person who gave us the lift then the chances are there that he will not give the next time to anyone.
So somehow we reached our first going to be employer, Das Electricals. The manager there was a great person he listened us well and tried his all resources, called his friends to find us a job. In the end he was successful, it was near JM road (Promotion for LG), but we as mentioned above in terms were not supposed to cross our territories.

If the person has the real will to help people then he will in any case.
After that we went to many probable employers like Nokia showroom, Vodafone, Photo fast, Airtel, Jai Hind, Private diary. Many shops from mentioned above list were just opened, so there were no mangers, at some places the person didn’t have the authority to give us job. At the Diary the person said if you can drive the four- wheeler then i have the job for you and for other work you are over qualified and didn’t feel like giving you.

Think where the opportunities are (we should have understood the fact that many big companies would not give us the work as they have to show the billing somewhere, they can only give sales and promotion related work if they have any)
We should keep updating knowledge and skills. (how to drive four-wheeler could have given me a job)
Then we decided to go to Baner side as time was running out, till 11:30 we didn’t have any job. We took a lift till Sarja, I started talking to the DRDO person who gave us the lift. We were frustrated a bit and the DRDO person started talking about some of his technologies, we kept on listening asking some questions in between. We reached Sarja restaurant, it opens after noon and we were not aware of this fact, so we started walking towards Green Park and Rajwada but again we proved our self fool as being a Monday there were no customers and hence no work. We were frustrated and too tired, we came to Sarja it was 12:30pm by then. And we finally got a job!! But how?

At some point of time you have to decide and take risk (as we did, moving from Aundh to Baner side)
Sometimes you have to listen though you are not interested at all.
Keep on trying, hard work always pay..... Sooner or later
We didn’t get the job that easily either at Sarja.. First we talked to the person in charge at Sarja convinced him to give the number of the owner, then we talked and convinced the Owner somehow and finally got the job.... we got energized!! I got the job as the biller and cashier and my Buddy, got the job of receiving customer and maintaining waiting Book. I learned their billing software, did some book maintaining work, did some billing but more importantly I motivated them (3 persons – Biller + cashier + caretaker of Sarja in absence of owner) to understand the complete Business slowly but steadily (they all were too good at their work but no knowledge of other things, the cashier there was working from past 7-8 years)

Success makes the person motivated and energized as we became!!
We should have a vision and should understand the complete things around, it helps us to grow.

Our Experience at Sarja – (Our one day employer)
We talked to the owner, he was too good, helpful, experienced and a bit strict. He offered us the food and in the end gave us Rs 200, as we say our salary of 3 hours (but in actual speaking it was not a salary but the money which we are going to give to some poor needy person). The employees at Sarja were too good, they really gave us the reason to go back and eat at Sarja sometime, actually many more times in future)......

In all there are many learning’s but due to time constraint I am signing off as of now......
